Everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ...I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. -Philippians 1:12-20
Someone asked a counselor about great expectations that were broken. The counselor said, "If not dealt with, they mature into anger and bitterness." Life is what happens when our plans fail.
Stuck in jail and set back by fellow believers who did not like him (Philippians 1:15,16), Paul remained surprisingly upbeat. As he saw it, God had given him a new mission field. While under house arrest, he witnessed to the guards about Christ. This, in turn, sent the gospel into Caesar's house. Even though some whom were very opposed to Paul, he rejoiced since they were still helping the gospel spread (Philippians 1:18).
Paul never expected to be in a great place or well-liked. His only expectation was that "Christ will be magnified" through him (Philippians 1:20). He was NOT disappointed!
If our expectation is to magnify Christ regardless of our failed plans, we will find those expectations met and even exceeded!
