If God Is Omniscient...

As Christians, we view God as an all-powerful, all-knowing, all-present being who created the universe and everything in it out of nothing. And really, this explanation of existence satisfactorily answers the questions of our origins better than all purely naturalistic suggestions. But if you really buy into the all-knowing aspect of God, you run into a problem.

You see, if there is a God who created everything as we know it, and if He was an all-knowing, omniscient God, and if He knew that Man (gifted with free will) was going to fall right out of the gate, and that His Creation was going to turn on itself and fester for millennia in sin and evil and pain, and He was going to have to one day save Mankind by sending His beloved Son to die for them, then why even bother with Creation at all? It all seems so pointless, doesn’t it? Creation doesn’t make any sense if God is truly omniscient. There’s no good reason to create a universe when you know it’s going to spoil immediately and pain and suffering are always going to exist until it’s made right again in the end of time. What would be the purpose?

Well, as it turns out, there is a magnificent purpose – a wonderful answer to this question. And it’s so simple, so beautiful, it’s amazing we miss it. The problem is that we’re looking at the question from our perspective, and not God’s. Ephesians 2:4-5 says, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.”

You see? What if, even after all the awful things that were going to take place once Creation was put into motion, after all the pain and suffering and sacrifice, God still thought that creating humans gifted with free-will that chose to truly love Him in the same way He loved them was worth it all? What if it’s not all pointless, what if LOVE was always the point? How would that impact your life’s purpose?

How would that change you?
